San Francisco is roughly 45 minutes from Fremont depending on the bridge, and it is the most constrained environment we work in. Parking is the problem before electricity is the problem.
Most San Francisco properties have no driveway. Charging happens in a tuck-under garage, a shared building garage, or not at all. Tuck-unders are often straightforward since the panel is frequently in the same garage. Shared buildings are where it gets involved: you are dealing with a house meter, an HOA, and sometimes a garage that is not legally assigned to specific units.
Almost every multi-unit project here turns on two questions before any electrical work is scoped — who owns the parking space, and which meter the charging draws from. We have done enough of these to help structure it, but expect the building governance to take longer than the installation. Buildings in Mission Bay, SoMa and Dogpatch built after 2015 are often EV-ready by code and go quickly.
Permits go through the San Francisco Department of Building Inspection. SF has the most involved permitting of any city we serve, and buildings in historic districts or with any facade impact can require extra review. We plan for it rather than discovering it.
